Episode 177 – Memoirs of an ADHD Mind – Melissa Hood
Episode 177 Show Notes for Melissa Hood Interview 2
On the line – all the way from wonderful ROUND ROCK, TX – oh how I miss that area…help me welcome back to the program, Missy Hood. Let me tell you what this woman has gone through…and you will see why I wanted her to talk with us today…
Missy lost 40 jobs in 15 years. That is just the beginning…you might wonder what makes someone so special about losing that many jobs…well, let me explain… Missy Hood has suffered from and struggled to overcome, ADHD. She was diagnosed with a severe case of ADHD and Dyslexia. In 1993 Missy triumphed over her condition – and has gone on to achieve great things with her life… and she wants to inspire others to do the same.
Upon completing her own research study at Texas State University, she decided that sharing her own life story in an autobiography would assist others dealing with the same disorder. Her Book “Memoirs of an ADHD Mind: God was a Genius in the Way He Made Me” comes at the topic of ADHD with understanding and Christian love. Inspired by revelation that God made her perfectly, Missy penned Memoirs of an ADHD Mind so that others can see that they too are perfect and ripe with potential.
Today Missy is enrolled in Concordia University’s Education Doctorate Program as she pursues her passion for teaching others in the field of Transformational Leadership. Why is this significant? Now listen to this…Only 1.2% of students with ADHD will EVER attain a Ph.D. And she is on her way to beating those statistics! Amen!
With spiritual help and coping skills, Missy has learned about the power of prayer (minus the meds) and using coping skills to overcome ADHD.
Today, Missy lives in Round Rock, TX, and she continues to counsel and raise up those deemed “less likely to succeed.”
Now, last time, Missy, we discussed your brand: “Tame Your BrainO”…and if anyone has not heard Missy’s interview from last time, please go back and listen to the program on Episode 109…Glory to God.
Missy, today I want to go a little more in-depth on the subject of ADHD. I mean, you are getting a doctorate in this…you’ve lived it…you should be able to explain things to us that nobody else can…amen!
Are schools, public and private, are they beginning to embrace ADHD training and curriculum?
I know, just as few as maybe 5 or 10 years ago, they would just give the child medication and “dope him up” so they could control ADHD. Just make the kid a walking vegetable – what do they do now?
Is it possible, in this day and age, that someone with undiagnosed ADHD to slip through the cracks of the school system and graduate – but be unable to succeed in society?
What advice can you give someone that HAS ADHD or has a CHILD that has ADHD?
As we get ready to close, Melissa has a book, “Memoirs of an ADHD Mind: God was a genius in the way he made me.”
If you or someone you know suffers from ADHD, this would be a very good resource to get into their hands. Let them know they are not suffering alone. Let them know that God cares for them and will help them to overcome this problem. Let them know about Missy, who has gone through it and can relate to them and encourage them.
Missy, give us your contact information if there is someone out there listening that may have other questions or would want to have you come and speak to a therapy group or a church group…how can they get ahold of you?
