In Thy Mother’s Honor Book Review – I.M. Waiting
Hello everyone everywhere, this is Pastor Robert Thibodeau and I want to thank you for joining us today on the Kingdom Crossroads Podcast! Today, I want to touch on a topic that is dear to my heart and one that has finally taken hold, slowly, but it is gaining some traction – and that is the care of our Veterans. Finally, we are seeing this brought to the forefront – but we still have a long, long way to go. A nation that asks so much of her men and women who, hearing the call to arms, willingly go to battle against our nation’s enemy, then return home to be neglected and pushed aside. Care for our veterans should have absolute priority over the care of illegal immigrants and those who refuse to work, look for work and have decided to make living on handouts from the government their priority.
Today’s guest is going by a pen name of I.M. Waiting. He has written a book called “In Thy Mothers Honor.” He wrote this book to educate us about the terrible, unbelievable pain that is experienced in war. Pain so horrible, nobody can understand it unless they have been in it. In this book, I. M. Waiting recalls his own personal memories of serving three tours in Vietnam as a Marine. He tells us about the nightmares he has seen and experienced. He details how he is still experiencing these vivid memories, nightmares and anguish even today. Even after years, several decades in passing, these things are still haunting him and others who served in Vietnam…as well as those soldiers who have recently experienced issues returning from the Middle East wars.
Help me welcome to the program, I. M. Waiting.
First off, as a Veteran Army Cavalry Officer and having served for almost 13 years, I left service in 1989, coming in at the end of the Vietnam era, enlisting in 1976…then receiving my commission in 1986, I want to thank you for your service. I consider it an honor to have trained by Vietnam Veterans and, during my enlisted time, I served as a Drill Instructor and, I believe, trained up those who went to war in the 1990’s. I would have been involved in the direct training of the NCO’s and some officers who were leading troops in the Middle East Wars recently. So – thank you for your service!
Ok, the first question I always ask, I want you tell us, “Who is I.M. Waiting?”
Why THAT TITLE for that book?
Why a pen name? And why THAT pen Name?
Why did you see the need to write this book?
Tell us about some of the injuries you suffered in combat and how they still affect you today…
You have had some surgeries as a result of those injuries…how many, do you know off the top of your head?
Have you suffered any affects of Agent Orange? How so?
Are you still plagued by these injuries? Have you had recent surgeries as a result of these injuries?
Has the Veterans Administration provided any help at all?
What was your experience like dealing with the VA?
PTSD is a real thing…It has finally been recognized as a true medical condition. How has it affected your life – even before it was officially recognized as a medical condition?
Have you reached out to any Veteran’s Associations for help?
How do you function with these conditions on a daily basis? How do they affect you?
You have had surgeries AFTER coming home from the war. Any recently that are directly attributed to your prior combat injuries? Has the VA helped in any way?
Has the government provided any compensation to you in regard to this?
What is the ONE TAKE AWAY you want our listeners to know as they read this book?
What was it you wanted to achieve as you wrote this book, besides the One Take Away we just talked about?
How can our listeners help you and our other veterans, Vietnam and Middle East Vets?
You have given us a lot to think about. It is, as I said before, an absolute shame in how our nation has treated many of our veterans. I believe, if a nation sends its young men and women into battle – then they need to take care of them when they come home. Period. No debates, no haggling, no politics – just do it.
How can our listeners get in touch with you, if they have any questions, comments, perhaps to do an interview like this…how they get in touch with you?
