Overcoming Cancer and Depression – Glen Kirkpatrick Interview

Hello everyone everywhere, this is Pastor Robert Thibodeau and I want to welcome you to the Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast today. We are so blessed that you can join us. This is where paths cross for Kingdom Purposes!  Amen!

How many of us have suffered from a physical ailment. Something that, despite the best doctors and whole lot of prayer, seemed to linger…maybe even getting worse, in some cases? How many have suffered from depression because of these illnesses?

How many just came to the point of wanting to give up?

Well, my guest today is Glen Kirkpatrick. Glen suffered from chronic illness, depression and even survived the big “C” word – Cancer.  He, and his wife Debbie, went through some things that others may not have endured. Perhaps they did not endure things to the level others have suffered from. Regardless, their story is one of inspiration and hope. Hope for healing; hope for forgiveness; hope for endurance; hope for the ability to overcome.

Today, Glen is going to talk about a book he and Debbie have written for the purpose of providing Hope for others who have suffered things that could be similar to what they have gone through…perhaps those who are helping someone cope with cancer, chronic illness or depression. Their book, “Overcome: A Story of Intervention, Rescue and Redemption” will help you, or someone you know, in a big way!

Help me welcome to the program, Glen Kirkpatrick!  Glen, thank you for taking the time to come on the show today…I appreciate it so much.

Glen, I always start with this question, right out of the gate. Tell us, “Who is Glen Kirkpatrick?”

Ok, now – tell me what your life was like BEFORE any of these illnesses hit you.

Did some type of illness occur BEFORE you were diagnosed with Cancer? By that, I  mean you were feeling ill and the doctor ran some tests to diagnose the problem – or you went for check up and “there it was?”

How and when did you realize you were suffering from depression?

I ask that because I went four or five years, with what I now know, was undiagnosed, severe, depression.

How did your diagnosis and the treatment affect your family? What did they go through?

Tell me what you learned about persevering…

How did Romans 8:1 and Romans [8:14]-17 give you hope? I’m talking about “who you are in Christ” and embracing your place in “sonship” in God…

In your book, you detail how you found joy, each and every day. Tell us how you were able to do that?

How much of a help was Debbie in all of this?

I am going to put a link in the show notes for your book. Is it available in book stores or just Amazon or online retailers?

You talk about “living in the moment” – what do you mean by that?

You talk about “resilience” in your book. Explain what you mean by that term and how is it different from “persevere?”

You were seen by many physicians…but you put your trust in the Great Physician… correct?  How and why is this important?  Should we seek doctor care, or just use our Faith?  How do see this?

Glen, you gave us a lot to think about today. I want to thank you for coming  on the program…if someone has a question, or they want to contact you about doing an interview such as this, how can they get in touch with you.

Folks, that is all the time we have today…I want to encourage you to go to the link in show notes below and grab Glen Kirkpatrick’s book, “Overcome: A Story of Intervention, Rescue and Redemption.”  You need to get this book, read it and then pass it on to someone whom YOU THINK could use the information in it. As a matter of fact, buy TWO. One for you and one for that other person whom you are worried about. It could be a co-worker, family member or just a friend.  But this information is vital to their Spiritual Survival and their Physical Survival as well.

For Glen Kirkpatrick and myself, this is Pastor Bob Thibodeau reminding you that you can “BE BLESSED IN ALL THAT YOU DO!”

Robert Thibodeau

I am a 12 year Army veteran as both enlisted and as a commissioned Cavalry Officer.
I am now a retired law enforcement supervisor...

I had my own business for seven years before I entered law enforcement.

As a cop, I was injured on the job on May 12, 2007 and after several surgeries over a couple of years, forced to retire in 2011.

As I was looking down the road to “what am I going to do next?” I started what is now known as a podcast (I had no clue at the time).

Within six months of starting (what I called) “My online radio program” I was offered an opportunity to be on nationwide AM radio. I learned A LOT in one year of doing that!

I then started the online Christian radio platform "Evangelism Radio" in the fall of 2010. It has had listeners in 160+ nations and all 50 states. We host 50+ Christian broadcasters on a weekly basis. We have been operating 24/7 for almost 14 years now. We have been rated #1 in the world by Shoutcast. com on several occasions in our genre. We recently transferred ownership of Evangelism Radio to another ministry so I could concentrate full time on podcasting, preaching and writing.

In 2018, I started the Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast to conduct interviews with Christian influencers from all walks of life and to play their interviews on the radio station. (The KCR Podcast has its own time slot on Evangelism Radio)!
We now have over 1600 episodes and almost 1100 interviews (in just over 6 years).

Looking out at the future of online Christian media, I noticed there was no viable platforms that catered only to the Christian podcast market.

In 2023, we launched a networking platform called, "FaithCasters" which connects "Great Christian podcasters with Great Christian Guests!" This helps to promote the work you do through podcast interviews! Check it out at https://FaithCaster.org

We recently launched "FaithCaster Academy" which serves as a training hub for ALL of our trainings (podcast training / speaker training / interview training, etc.). Members receive access to ALL of our training programs for one low, monthly membership fee. Members also receive FREE access to ALL of the LIVE trainings I conduct (1 or 2 per month) - while non-members have to pay to access the live trainings.

Between my podcast training program, conducting podcast interviews, appearing on other podcasts as guests, speaking at conferences (in person and virtually) and the podcast networking platform, I guess you could say “I’m all in” when it comes to podcasting and online media!

My total focus is to do all we can to assist you to “Get The Word Out” about your mission, services, products, ministry, books, business, etc.
