Hard Times Create Strong Men – Stefan Aarnio

We see all of the taking head TV shows, liberal media talking points about how “bad” it is in America right now. So bad that college campuses have to create “safe zones” for the snowflake generation to go and cry for various reasons. Pressure have having to take a quiz. They seen something on TV that made them uncomfortable. Mommy and Daddy didn’t send their allowance on time. Whatever.

But basically, it boils down to two things. One – the failure of the family unit. There was a time when boys were taught how to be men.  They played sports, learned discipline and toughened themselves up over time.  Two – the failure of these, now men, to uphold the standards of what it means to “be a man.” To take control as head of the family unit, just as the Bible says they should do. Lead the family. Provide for the family. Defend the family. Create the legacy for the family.

I mean, is it my imagination, or has man become an endangered species?  I’m not talking about he male gender, per se. But about masculine men. You know, the John Wayne’s and Clint Eastwood’s of the world. The stuff cowboy movies were made of when I was growing up.

Why is it that we have to watch old TV westerns to see the role models of men opening doors for ladies. Or tipping their hat. Or not cussing around women, and if they do, apologize for it on the spot? Or risking a fight and possibly a fight to the death, in order to defend a woman’s honor?

But instead, men today have abdicated that responsibility to whoever in the family wants to “be the boss.” That, in some cases is the mother. In other cases, the males check out entirely and allow the kids to fend for themselves. Which leads us down an entirely different path that I don’t have time to go into today.

My guest today is Stefan Aarnio. He is an unapologetic “apologetic” on the importance of men being the men they were created to be. Stefan is a self made millionaire, before the age of 30 I might add, and has authored numerous books. His latest book is is “Hard Times Make Strong Men” which we will be discussing today. Stefan is also a corporate business coach and is unashamedly male, masculine and has no patience for those males who flee to crying zones on college campuses.

Stefan is an advocate of hard work and strong morals. His signature 10 second quote sums up the history of mankind as he sees it. It makes so much sense, and I want you to pay attention to the “circle of life” as I call it.  Listen to this.

“Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. Weak men create hard times.”

Doesn’t that make so much sense. You can see that playing out in life right in front of us today! How can you argue with that premise? You can’t!  But it is Stefan Aarnio’s 5 word comment about Feminism that has caught him more flack than dozens of his other philosophical quips. Are you ready for this one?  On feminism, Stefan declares, “The feminist movement has failed.” I can see how this culture would have to run to their safe zones on that one!  LOL.

Help me welcome to the program, Stefan Aarnio!  Stefan, it is good to have you with us today! Thank you for taking the time to come on the show.

I’ve got a whole list of things I want to talk with you about today. But before I do that, let me start with this question first. I ask each guest this question right out of the gate. Tell us in your own words, “Who is Stefan Aarnio?”

Ok, now – before we allow half of our listening audience right off the bat…LOL…  Let me ask you, what could you possibly have against feminine women?

Now, in the intro, I quoted your phrase from your book, “Hard Times Create Strong Men.” Let me go over that again here (because I think it is a great quote): “Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. Weak men create hard times.”

Can you put that phrase in a context that represents the historical cycles that will back up your premise?

Can you give us some examples of “strong men” in history?

But the trend today is to have men be more “sensitive” to their “feelings” and to the “feelings” of others. It is actually a cultural trend away from masculinity – which is described as “bad” and “toxic.” Isn’t defending your advocating the traditional masculinity bucking the societal trend and, in the process, offending both, the females who push this feminism on society and the males who have accepted it?

Here is a question for you. President Trump versus President Obama.  Do you view President Trump as strong or weak and why?  Same question about President Obama?

I want to move away from politics for a minute and talk business.

Jeff Bezos. In your opinion. Strong or weak? Why?

How about the “darling of the left,” Mark Zuckerberg?

I have another…Elon Musk? How say you?

Can you give us any other businessmen that you have opinions on?

Let’s move from the corporate business climate to the individual work ethic.

You believe a man is defined by his work. But isn’t that just a bit oversimplifying of who a man truly is?

You are a successful businessman. You’re what, 32 years old…a multi-millionaire, not over weight but relatively thin. I can understand the money part. But being what, 6 foot 4 inches (I think I read) and thin – even thinner than normal after losing 40 pounds on what, a 40 day fast in a rain forest in Costa Rica? Why would you do that?  Did you discover anything about yourself while on that 40 day fast?  Any Spiritual breakthrough’s?

Would you recommend that to others as a way to “discover themselves?”

Let’s move now from work to pleasure. Simple pleasures in life. Some would call some of them “sinful pleasures.” Or “virtue vs. vice.” How can a man – or a woman, for that matter – balance virtue vs. vice?

Historically, correct me if I’m wrong, hasn’t the term “strong man” – that hasn’t always been a complement, correct?

Hasn’t strength always been measured, in some ways, with muscle mass and machoism?  But being a man is really much more than that. Correct?

You like to quote Will Durant, who once said, “A nation is born a stoic and dies a epicurean.”  How does that relate to our modern culture and where does the United States stand in its historical cycle?

Ok. Back to philosophy for a minute. Not yours, but…well, let me give you this quote by Ayn Rand: “A creative man motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.” Do you agree or disagree with that statement?

Stefan, I truly appreciate your time today. This was a wonderful, insightful interview into the day and time in which we now live – and what we are missing out on. My prayer is that we will come through these “hard times” and create “strong men” once again!

If someone wanted to get in touch with you, maybe to ask a question – or do an interview such as this – how can they do that?  How can they get a copy of your book?

Folks, there you have it! I know some of you snowflakes out there are offended right now. GOOD. You need to be. You’ve offended the natural, moral and spiritual meaning of being a “man.”  You, especially, should be ordering a copy of Stefan Aarnio’s book, “Hard Times Create Strong Men.”  For those of you who were not offended by today’s subject matter – Congratulations! You just may have what it takes to be a “strong man” in today’s culture! Amen!

I recommend you get a copy of Stefan’s book. As a matter of fact, IF you are truly a “strong man,” you should order probably three copies!  Yes, I said THREE!  One for you and two to pass out to your friends.  You need to take charge! You need to learn what it means to be a “strong man.” You need to make sure this generation of young men can be snatched out of the snares of weakness and the feminist mentality that is creating snowflakes that melt at the first presence of any type of heat – and become the men they were created to be by God.

Amen!

That is all the time we have for today. Stefan, thank you again for joining us. I truly appreciate it.

For Stefan Aarnio and myself, this is Pastor Bob reminding you to BE BLESSED IN ALL THAT YOU DO!

About your host

Profile picture for Robert Thibodeau

Robert Thibodeau

I am a 12 year Army veteran as both enlisted and as a commissioned Cavalry Officer.
I am now a retired law enforcement supervisor...

I had my own business for seven years before I entered law enforcement.

As a cop, I was injured on the job on May 12, 2007 and after several surgeries over a couple of years, forced to retire in 2011.

As I was looking down the road to “what am I going to do next?” I started what is now known as a podcast (I had no clue at the time).

Within six months of starting (what I called) “My online radio program” I was offered an opportunity to be on nationwide AM radio. I learned A LOT in one year of doing that!

I then started the online Christian radio platform "Evangelism Radio" in the fall of 2010. It has had listeners in 160+ nations and all 50 states. We host 50+ Christian broadcasters on a weekly basis. We have been operating 24/7 for almost 14 years now. We have been rated #1 in the world by Shoutcast. com on several occasions in our genre. We recently transferred ownership of Evangelism Radio to another ministry so I could concentrate full time on podcasting, preaching and writing.

In 2018, I started the Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast to conduct interviews with Christian influencers from all walks of life and to play their interviews on the radio station. (The KCR Podcast has its own time slot on Evangelism Radio)!
We now have over 1600 episodes and almost 1100 interviews (in just over 6 years).

Looking out at the future of online Christian media, I noticed there was no viable platforms that catered only to the Christian podcast market.

In 2023, we launched a networking platform called, "FaithCasters" which connects "Great Christian podcasters with Great Christian Guests!" This helps to promote the work you do through podcast interviews! Check it out at https://FaithCaster.org

We recently launched "FaithCaster Academy" which serves as a training hub for ALL of our trainings (podcast training / speaker training / interview training, etc.). Members receive access to ALL of our training programs for one low, monthly membership fee. Members also receive FREE access to ALL of the LIVE trainings I conduct (1 or 2 per month) - while non-members have to pay to access the live trainings.

Between my podcast training program, conducting podcast interviews, appearing on other podcasts as guests, speaking at conferences (in person and virtually) and the podcast networking platform, I guess you could say “I’m all in” when it comes to podcasting and online media!

My total focus is to do all we can to assist you to “Get The Word Out” about your mission, services, products, ministry, books, business, etc.
