One of the best ways of helping other people is to share your wisdom, your knowledge and your experiences with them. That allows them, to basically, learn from your experiences and mistakes and move closer to reaching their goals faster, than trial and error and learning on their own.

Podcasts is one way of doing that. Which is why I love interviewing Christian influencers and allowing them to share with you.

Other than podcasting, public speaking - at events, meetings, conferences, etc., is truly beneficial. Usually, you will have a chance to meet the speaker and, well, overall – it is just a great way to learn and to network. Amen!

But, for some people, the idea of standing up in front of a group of strangers and sharing details from your life is, well, let’s just say “nerve wracking!” Some people would rather jump off a bridge than stand up in front of people and start talking, let alone teaching…

Our guest today is Mike Acker. He is the son of drug dealers, turned NGO leaders (NGO means “Non-Governmental Organizations” that fight against the drug pandemic).  Today, Mike is a keynote and TEDx speaker, executive coach and the author of nine books, (that’s right – NINE BOOKS)! including the best-selling “Speak with No Fear,” which spent three years as Amazon’s top book on overcoming fear of speaking and was also listed in Forbes “7 Books That Will Help You Conquer the Fear Of Public Speaking.”  Known for his authenticity, humor, and engaging presence, Mike has over twenty years of experience as a speaking coach, leadership coach, and public speaker. He is also a former pastor and has worked with and supported several non-profits and relief organizations.

His most recent book is “Speak with Confidence: Overcome Self-Doubt, Communicate Clearly and Inspire Your Audience.” Praise God!

First question I always start with is the. Other than that brief information I just shared, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Mike Acker?”

You have to explain this part about, “son of drug dealers – turned into NGO leaders.”  I just want to start right there because that is not something you hear very often!

I know Mazatlan is a tourist area now. Was it like that when you were growing up?  What was life like for you when you lived in Mexico? Were your bullied while growing up there?

Your bio says that this gave you insight into what it was like to be an outsider and survived.

I also read that you were lost – in the desert?

We hear all of these State Department warnings and things like about tourists being kidnapped, murdered, robbed, etc. today. Was it that way when you were living down there?

Let’s shift gears a bit. You were a pastor for a time, correct?  Tell us a bit about yourself and your ministry in those days…
