One of the most difficult things to face as a parent is to know your child is sick – and there is nothing you can do to “fix” the problem. I’m not discounting this situation with mothers – and I’ve interviewed a few mom’s on this program who have faced health problems with their children. But I can relate to how a father looks at this situation.

Men, inherently, want to “fix things” that are wrong – and to make them right. We want to bear the burden if it means our family is ok. That’s just wired in us.

One of the most important things we can do, both mothers and fathers, is learn how battle the devil on a spiritual level. Yes, he is attacking us or our family in the natural while this is happening…but the Spiritual always – ALWAYS – overcomes the natural when we rest in Christ. Amen!

My guest today had to face this type of battle himself. He had to find a way to fight for his son, who was born with, not one, but TWO heart defects. Failing heart valves and a rapid pulse called SVT.  The doctors had not faced a situation like this with these two issues at the same time in such a young infant.

Over the course of 18 months, he endured 6 open heart surgeries.

RL Shawver authored a book describing his son’s ordeal but how his faith also grew exceedingly strong throughout this experience, titled, “For This Child I Have Prayed: 6 Heart Surgeries in 18 Months.”

After the third surgery, you were wondering if it was possible for you to just “lay claim to any promise in the Bible.”  What was sparking those thoughts and how did you settle that question in your spirit?

God is true and the devil is a liar, right? Praise God!

What do you have to say to parents who may be going through a health challenge for their children – or for anyone who may be facing an attack like this in their family?

Your book is a word of encouragement, even for those who may not have a health challenge. I am sent books all the time to read prior to interviews. I’m very good at skimming through them and grasping on different points to discuss in the interview. But your book was more than that. I actually READ your book, from beginning to end. I believe everyone, it doesn’t matter if they are facing a health challenge or not – their faith will be strengthened just by reading your book.

Folks, what RL and his wife, Stephanie and little Samuel, and their entire family, Isaiah, the grandparents and everyone, have endured cannot be measured or described with words. But, it is THE WORD that brought them through. God is True. Every promise in the Word of God is True. Every word that is contrary to THE WORD of God is a lie.  RL Shawver, his family, myself and my family and others, who have endured, faced down and overcome adversity and attacks by the forces of darkness by standing on the Word of God – we have this down so deep in our hearts a pry bar would break in two before we would give up on God. You can have that same kind of Faith. Just get into the Word of God for yourself. Don’t rely on any one person’s interpretation. READ IT YOURSELF. Amen!
