The Courageous Ask – Brian Kreeger pt 2

The Courageous Ask

Brian Kreeger pt 2

We have all seen the news reports of someone of some esteemed importance getting caught up in some kind of scandal. Politicians. High level executives. Hollywood elite or sports superstars. It’s all so shocking and everyone wonders how they could have allowed it to happen.

But there are others that fall into the same temptations. Pastors. Ministry leaders. Non-profit leaders. It doesn’t have to a major scandal, affair or corruption. Often, it’s not. But the stigma and embarrassment of what happens can cost marriages, careers and, in some cases, the people involved may even take their own life!

My guest today is Brian Kreeger, author of the book “The Courageous Ask: A Proactive Approach to Prevent the Fall of Christian Non-Profit Leaders.”

Brian was the founder of a great non-profit health clinic in a major metropolitan city – who lost his identity and, well, let’s say, “fell from grace.” His calling is to share his story and what he has learned and observed in others – all for the purpose of helping Board of Directors and others in various leadership positions to prevent their leaders from succumbing to these temptations.

Brian’s book, “The Courageous Ask: A Proactive Approach to Prevent the Fall of Christian Non-Profit Leaders,” is a great read and will be a great resource for your leadership teams, from churches to businesses.

Today is part two of, what has been, a great two part interview!

Knowing that this could happen to me, you and others – I mean, we see news reports of “scandalous” things happening all of the time…and the bigger the name the more the headlines.  What can we, as individuals, do to prevent these types of actions?

Your board of directors said something to you about “what responsibility did they play” in what happened? Did this even register that they had failed in some way, for what had happened?

You share one story in your book about a CEO of a multi-million dollar corporation who had done a great job for many years; well respected in the community; did a lot of charity work, etc., suddenly found himself involved with some kind of charges for something that happened to one of the participants at a camp he sponsored. In your book,  you share that this event caused him to become even more loyal to the Board and to the company. Can you share the how and why of a situation like this actually cementing the bond of loyalty?

As you have progressed on, you’ve done speaking and consulting, how have your broached this subject with business and ministry professionals and their board of directors?

Are their signs that indicate something is amiss? Things that, say a Board of Directors needs to be watching for?

Are there things that may not be observable by the Board of Directors but someone who is close, perhaps assistants or other associates may observe?

How should someone approach a Christian leader, especially a ministry leader, be it pastor, director or otherwise, with their concerns?

You talk about “the fall was an anomaly or was it caused by something more serious.” And you use the story about “snow in Disney World” as an example. Can you explain that for us?

Brian, this all so interesting. I could just keep going on because this book is applicable, more than most people know or understand, to things happening all around us today. Not just in ministry, but to CEO’s of non-profits and even corporations.

Folks, what happened to Brian Kreeger can (and does) happen, more often than you even realize. But the better method would be to prevent the fall from grace in the first place.

That is the purpose of Brian’s book, “The Courageous Ask: A Proactive Approach to Prevent the Fall of Christian Non-Profit Leaders.”  You need to get a copy of this book, right now, today. Go down into the show notes and order Brian Kreegers book, “The Courageous Ask: A Proactive Approach to Prevent the Fall of Christian Non-Profit Leaders,” while you are thinking about it.

In fact, order two or three copies. Give them out to your Board of Directors, your church leadership, your pastor. You never know how just ONE TIP from Brian Kreeger could be identified in a leader and prevented – simply because you purchased this book. Amen!
