A House Without Holes – Denise Broadwater pt 1

Denise Broadwater is a private practice counselor who began her career as an MST Family Therapist working with at risk youth and their families. For the past ten years, she has been practicing in the Charleston area as a general counselor but specializing in marriage counseling. Denise is called to engage and push against a flood of personalities. She is the author of the book, “A House Without Holes: One Marriage Journey in a Charleston Renovation.”

As recent empty nesters, Denise and her husband Greg, purchased a dilapidated Charleston cottage in a “sketchy” part of town. They were able to purchase the house for less than the value of the lot. But they did not bargain on hidden complications. She had to face a remodeling project that included open dirt floors, a creepy bathroom and even wildlife in the kitchen. But as they worked the renovation project on their house, they also worked on the renovation of their life.

This book is her story and she is here today to share it with us. Help me welcome to the program, Denise Broadwater!

Denise, thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to join us today!

Now, the first question I always ask is this. Other than that short intro I just read, tell us in your own words, “Who is Denise Broadwater?”

Now, you started as an “MST” Family Therapist. “MST” is short for “Multi-systemic Therapy,” correct? And can you explain what that means and what it is you were doing?

And how does that relate to what you are doing now?

In your book, you share that marriage requires commitment and flexibility. That each spouse must develop their own gifts in order to work together through the challenges. To learn to communicate in a way that will draw them closer together through the issues that arise.  How did this house help you in that way?

Let me ask you, how did you sense God was leading you to purchase this house?  Or was this something you just wanted to do and then, God “took over” to lead through these issues?

You told us a little bit of the creepy bathroom, but give us the details on just how bad it really was.

What about the dirt floors and wildlife in the kitchen?

You said that the house was in a “sketchy” part of town. What made you decide to go to that area?

Were there times when you were concerned for your safety in that type of neighborhood?

Were there any instances when you felt like you were not welcomed there?

Folks, you need to get a copy of this inspiring book by Denise Broadwater. “A House with Holes,” is one of those books that will inspire you to greater things. Greater things in life. Greater things in marriage. Greater things in your relationships, with friends, family, co-workers. You really need to understand what Denise is sharing with you.  She has opened up and shared some of the issues that plague just about every family. It just happened that God used this house renovation project to reveal Himself and His plans to Denise and her husband, Greg.

She has shared these experiences, with you, in this book. Not as a journal of a renovation project. But as a way to experience God, His Love, His guidance, His plans, even in the midst of troubles.

If you are going through something, she may be able to help. She has a blog on her website where she continues to share inspirational thoughts and things that happen in her life as well.  So click the links down below. Order your book or books and get in touch with Denise today.
