Prayer 2021 – April 5 – Pray for the Sick with Boldness

Scripture For Today:

James 5:14

“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the Name of the Lord.”

Pray for the Sick with Boldness

One thing I learned a long time ago is that we, as believers, have authority to pray for, make intercession for and make supplications for those that are sick. Many times, we fall into the mistake of using our natural senses to pray rather than allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us in our prayers.

When someone comes to you, contacts you or otherwise sends a message for you to pray, how many times have you said, “I’ll pray for you” – but never did? Don’t shout me down when I’m preaching good…you know exactly what I’m saying…

There have been times when I did the same thing.  Someone told me of some condition, it may not even be a sickness – it could be they are applying for a job or anything…and they say something like, “Pray for me that I get this job” or “Pray that the doctor’s test comes back negative” or anything like that.

And we automatically respond with something, “Ok. I’ll pray be praying for you…”

And then we never do.

Don’t lie. I know that you know you’ve done this, too. I admit, that I’ve done it as well.

Well, folks, let’s just say that’s “not very Christian like.” Am I right?

What I’ve found that works for me, is to pray for them!

“Well, brother Bob, that’s nice. So what?”

No, you don’t understand what I’m saying. I mean “I pray for them – right then!”

I don’t care if it is in the middle of the grocery store or at WalMart. We see each other and exchange pleasantries, etc. Then, they tell me whatever it is they have going on and say, “So just pray for me…”

I say, “OK. Let’s pray!” I grab their hand or I put my arm on their shoulder and start to pray. Right there! Out loud! And I pray “In the Name of Jesus” and pray as if we were alone somewhere. I’m not shy about it anymore.

The person will usually respond, at first, with, “Here?”  I respond with, “YUP!” And we pray!

Now, I will not pray out loud about personal matters that nobody else should know about. But I will pray, “Lord, you know what Sister so and so is going through right now. We come together in agreement according to your Word and release our Faith in agreement together and take authority of this situation and we command, In the Name of Jesus, this demonic attack to stop, etc. etc.”

I usually only will pray publicly like this, with Sister so and so, for maybe 45 to 60 seconds or so.

What does this do?

Well, first of all, they know I prayed, right?

Next, we prayed together, that’s the power of agreement.

Then, we provided a public testimony that we believe in what we say we do. That is a testimony the Lord can possibly use to reach someone else with the Gospel. Amen!

The devil isn’t secret about his plan to destroy lives through sickness or whatever. Why should we be shy about his defeat that has already been achieved? And the power and authority that we have been given to make sure he stays defeated?  Don’t be shy! Be BOLD! Amen!
