Prayer 2021 – July 19 – Praying for Those in Authority pt 1

Scripture For Today:

 1 John 5:16

 “If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that.”

Praying for Those in Authority pt 1

We all should be praying for leaders at all levels of government, whether you agree with their politics or not. Even if you have an unrighteous leader in office, the prayer of a righteous man can affect them. Amen!

1 Timothy 2:1-2 says:

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

That is probably what is wrong with this country right now. If you are of a different political leaning than the leaders in office, you refuse to pray for them. That is total backwards from what the Apostle Paul had to say about the matter.

At the time he wrote this, Timothy was the pastor of a New Testament church. Paul is writing to him. I like how Paul worded his instructions to Timothy (and, through his letter, preserved in the Bible, to us today).  He said, “I exhort therefore, that FIRST OF ALL…”

Earlier, in First Thessalonians, 5:25, Paul said, “Brethren, pray for US.”  He invited the Church at Thessalonica to pray for him. It is definitely scriptural to pray for one another. Amen!

But, all too often, we put ourselves FIRST in the praying. Sometimes, that is as far as we ever get! In other words, most of the time, we are just praying selfishly for ourselves or about our own needs and for our own family. We go completely against what the Apostle Paul instructed – under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit!

Which means, when we fail to pray for our LEADERS FIRST – we are going against the Godly order that the Holy Spirit has ordained. You are going against the Word of God and the Will of God.

Is it any wonder why this country is so screwed up right now? Even believers have failed to do what God instructed. Amen!

I want to pray for you right now, and myself included, that we will begin to do what God instructed the Apostle Paul to share with us. That, “FIRST OF ALL, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

Amen!
