Scripture For Today:

 2 Chronicles 7:12

“…the Lord appeared to him at night and said: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple for sacrifices.”

Praying for Those in Authority pt 2

We  have been studying about the importance of praying for our leaders and those in authority. The Apostle Paul said in 1 Timothy 2:1-2:

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

Notice Paul said, “…FIRST OF ALL…” And, in case you were confused about WHO to pray for FIRST, he said, “…for kings, and for all that are in authority…”

In Paul’s day, kings ruled over the nations. That is why Paul said to pray for the kings and for ALL that are in authority. In our day, instead of “kings,” we would simply say, “heads of government and all that are in positions of authority.”

Why would Paul want Christians to pray for kings and all who were in authority? Especially with all the wickedness those kings were demonstrating and oppressing those who worshipped the Lord Jesus instead of the kings?

The answer is really profound – and one which escapes most people, including so called Christians today…

Because whatever happens in the nation in which we live is going to affect all of us!  Paul told us WHY we are to pray for “all those in authority” as well. He said, “…that we may lead a quite and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

You see, God is concerned about US. Isn’t that why He sent Jesus to the cross in the first place? Because He “so loved the world (and that includes us)”…right?

When a people choose an unrighteous leader, things go horribly wrong in that nation. Look at the United States right now. The people that are running our government are not lifting up Christian values – they are trying to diminish Christian values and morality. It is an “anything goes” mentality. “If it feels good to you – do it.” If you are offended by what someone else is doing, get over it. If you believe something different – then YOU are the one who is wrong.

That is the spiritual situation of our governmental leaders.

God cannot bless that. He will not bless that. Which is why so many things are happening at once time all over this nation.

Riots in the cities, droughts and wild fires in the west. Floods in other areas of the nation. Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes – even on the east coast of the United States. Inflation, stagnation, increased energy costs, decreased wages. COVID re-emerging.

These things affect all of us.

And it all starts at the top. Which is why the Apostle Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, says to “pray for those in authority.”  That is from the office of the President down through all branches of government, to the States and the cities as well. Down to the appointed dog catcher or whatever.

We need to pray FOR ALL AUTHORITIES, including the Police and fire officials. Amen!

If you refuse to do so – you are disobeying God’s will – which does not bring the blessing to you then. It allows the curse to come upon you. Look at what is happening in this nation and, unless you are spiritual brain dead, you can see what I mean.
