The Yoke – Darrell Dunham pt 1

The Yoke

A Story of Faith, Love, Forgiveness and Redemption

Darrell Dunham pt 1

As a Christian, do you find it hard to “take a break” from life and just relax with a little bit of fiction? There is so much out there that you do not want to expose yourself to, even if you know it is a fictional work. The need for more Christian literature that benefits young adults is very needful in this day and time in which we live. It is especially important as they young adults begin their faith journey, often on their own for the very first time in their life.

Well, my guest today has written just such a book. It is called “The Yoke” and this book is a story of Faith, Love, Forgiveness and also Redemption – all wrapped up in one riveting story line. This book will have you on the edge of your seat as you wonder what will happen next!

Darrell Dunham is the author of this book. Darrel practicing attorney in southern Illinois. He has been a Christian for more than thirty-five years. He and his wife, Betsy, have five children and seven grandchildren.

Help me welcome to the program, the author of this fabulous book, Darrel Dunham.  Darrel, thank you for joining us on the program today!

Darrel, let me briefly, set the story for our listeners so they will have a better understanding of what we will be talking about today.

The book is about a young man by the name of Barnabas Mitchell, who is the focus of the story. His father had abandoned he and his mother when he was very young. Then, at age 12, his mother was seriously injured in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. After that, Barnabas witnesses his mother’s declining health until she ultimately succumbs to her injuries when he is a senior in college.

Because finances were always an issue in his life, Barnabas was never able to participate in normal social activities that high school age children get into. So his social life is almost non-existent. He is reclusive, withdrawn and shy. Because of the injuries to his mother, Barnabas was never really exposed to church and never fully developed his Faith in God. But, one thing his mother instilled in Barnabas was good moral values. He stays true to those values throughout his life.

Enter the villain of the story. Bill Cushman is almost the exact opposite of Barnabas Mitchell. He is good looking, athletic, outgoing and definitely rich. His father has such influence in the community that anytime Bill gets into trouble, daddy gets him out of it. Therefore, Bill grows up feeling entitled and will use anyone to get his way.

Bill basically compels Barnabas to be his friend. And Barnabas is unable to every truly shed Bill from his life. Both go on to become lawyers. Bill and Barnabas ultimately will go “head to head” in a courtroom battle.

Also, Barnabas meets a girl of his dreams in law school, Stephanie. Stephanie is very clear she will never become serious nor marry anyone who is not a Christian. She will not become “yoked” to an unbeliever.

Darrell, does that pretty well give a synopsis of the book?  Did I leave anything out you would like to add before I get into some questions that I have for you?

Ok, Darrell, the first question I always start with is this. Other than that short bio I just read, tell us in your own words, “Who is Darrel Dunham?”

How long did it take you to write this book?

How does the final, published version of the book, compare to what your vision looked like when you started?

What was the inspiration for you to even write this type of book?

Now, I have to ask, is any of this book related to any personal events in your life?

Who was the intended audience which you were writing this book for?

How has the book been received?  Is everything going ok with the release and launch of “The Yoke?”

If someone is out there and they are inspired to write their first ever Christian / Fictional novel, give them advice about how to begin. And perhaps a few pitfalls to avoid along the way.

Is your book available in book stores, Amazon? How can someone get a copy of your book?

I will put links to that in the show notes below.

Darrell, if someone wanted to get in touch with you, to ask a question or possibly to do an interview such as this, how can they do that? How can they get in touch with you?

I will be putting links to all of this in the show notes below.

Folks, we are all out time for today!  I find this so fascinating! I know I could have kept talking to Darrell Dunham for awhile more, but I’m sure he is needed in his law firm as well. Praise God!

I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for us to get good, quality, compelling and any other adjective you can think of, Christian fiction into the hands of young people today. Get their minds off of the video games and things like that. Allow the Word of God to get in to their minds in some form or fashion. And Darrell Dunham’s book, “The Yoke,” will do just that.

Now, you know Christmas is just around the corner (at the time of this recording). So I would like to see you order, not just one, but maybe three or four of these books and use them as Christmas gifts for some young adults that you love. Test it out and see if the seed you sow through this book will yield results down the road.

That is all the time we have for today. Go to the links down below and order your books right now, while you are thinking about it!

For Darrell Dunham and myself, this is Pastor Bob reminding you to BE BLESSED IN ALL THAT YOU DO!
