A Life Half Lived – Darryl Rodgers pt 2
A Life Half Lived
Darryl Rodgers pt 2
Almost the worst scenario any parent could ever go through is the loss of a child. Thankfully, I have not had to experience that. But I know many, many people who have. There is always the self-imposed guilt of “What could I have done differently?” and “Why did this happen?”
This is especially so whenever some type of addiction, drug, alcohol or whatever, is involved.
My guest today has experienced this also. I’ll let him share the story.
But Darryl Rodgers came out the other side of the grief, ready to help others who may be going down the same path his son, Chase, went down. He has been helping parents who ask themselves the same questions. He is also ready to help parents who are going through the addiction stage and wanting to help their child.
Darryl has written a book about his son, Chase, titled “A Life Half Lived,” published in 2015, but the information contained in this book is just as relevant today. Darryl Rodgers is not only an author, but a family recovery coach and conference speaker on this topic as well.
What are, what you call, “The Three C’s” for parents of children with a substance disorder? (You did not cause it; you can’t control it; you can’t cure it)
You assist other parents who are wondering what to do with their addicted child. How do you help them?
You list 8 signs that it is time for parents to give their children an ultimatum. What are those 8 signs and what is the ultimatum they should issue?
As parents, we all are worried about our adult children, especially when we see them making mistakes. I mean clearly bad choices. Other than sounding like we are meddling, should we be doing something different to let them know we do not approve of what they are doing? Won’t that drive them away?
Can you share with us the “Big Secret” to recovery from addiction?
You are a “Family Recovery Coach.” Why should parents seek out the services of a “Family Recovery Coach” such as yourself?”
Darryl, this has been truly informative. I know there is someone somewhere out there right now that has listened to this and said, “That’s Me.” Whether for better or worse, they have identified themselves from what you have shared.
If someone has a question and would like to reach out to you for more information, how can they do that? How can they get in touch with you? On your website, you offer a free list of resources to anyone who has a child and the parent wants to know how to obtain help and more information.
Your book, “A Life Half Lived,” how can someone obtain a copy? Is it on Amazon?
And the free resource list is available on your website, correct?
I’ll put links to all of this in the show notes below.
Folks, addiction is real pandemic in this nation right now, whether you, our us, as a nation, want to admit it. It’s worse now than it has ever been, even for old folks like me and Darryl… we never faced things like we see today.
Our children need us to help them. They may not like it. We may be uncomfortable. But we still need to be there for them. As Darryl has been sharing, there is a right way and a wrong way to help. Make sure you know the right way – to avoid driving them farther away, or worse, when they need you the most.
Drop down into the show notes and click the links right there to get in touch with Darryl Rodgers. Order his book while you are there. This book will give you a glimpse into what can happen and what the possibilities are for you to avoid that kind of outcome. Order your book today. Amen!
