Epic Archaeology – Ted Wright pt 1

Many people today think the Bible is just a collection of writings from the ancient Middle East. Put together in such a way that it weaves an interesting story. Some fact, some fiction, some mysticism. But the truth presented in lopsided, one sided and does not truly convey what actually happened. A collection of stories that were based, basically on man’s imagination, manipulation and political ambitions of that day.

But, when presented with scientific evidence; when presented with actual artifacts from ancient times that back up what the Bible says truly happened…well, the results can be, shall we say, “Epic.”

My guest today is the Executive Director of “Epic Archaeology,” Ted Wright. Epic Archaeology is dedicated to cutting edge research as well as bringing the wonder of archaeology, historical investigation and discovery to the everyday person.

Ted is freelance teacher, writer, researcher and founder of EpicArchaeology.org. For over a decade, Ted has been a speaker on Christian apologetics as well as Biblical Archaeology across North America & internationally. In addition to public speaking, Ted was the former Executive and Teaching Director of CrossExamined.org. Ted has also appeared on numerous television and radio programs including the History Channel’s TV miniseries – “Mankind: The Story of All of Us,” as well as CNN’s recent documentary on the historical resurrection of Jesus, “Jesus: Faith. Fact. Forgery.”  Ted has a B.A. in Anthropology & Archaeology from the Cobb Institute of Archaeology at Mississippi State University and an M.A. in Christian apologetics with a concentration in philosophy from Southern Evangelical Seminary, where he served as graduate research assistant to Dr. Norman Geisler.  Ted has participated in numerous excavations and is an Adjunct Professor at the Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary.

Help me welcome to the program, Ted Wright!  Ted, thank you for taking the time to join us today!

Everyone who listens to us knows that I’m a, for lack of a better term, history nerd. And I love it when I hear about a new archaeological discovery that validates some Bible story that has never been validated before. It just makes me want to do my “happy dance” in the face of Bible critics!

Let me start with this question…I always ask this first question of our guests. Other than that short bio I just read, tell us in your own words, “Who is Ted Wright?”

How did you get interested in Biblical Archaeology?  What was that “spark?”

Some people think that science is science and does not have anything to do with Faith. And that if you rely on science to confirm what the Bible says, you do not have Faith in the Bible alone. Can you explain what the relationship is between archaeology and the Bible?

Ted, I can only imagine the excitement as you brush away some sand or soil and see, for the first time in perhaps 2,000 years, something that was previously only known through the scriptures and questioned by Bible critics. And, as you continue to uncover others things – end up proving the scriptures to be accurate!

I know that archaeology, by itself, cannot “prove,” I don’t know, lets’ say – the resurrection. Archaeology cannot prove it truly happened. But, can you tell what has been discovered that adds credence and authority to the Biblical accounts of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus?

I’ve heard that the “Garden Tomb” is just representative of what the tomb of Jesus would have been like. That it is not the actual tomb. In your work and research, what is your opinion of that cultural site?

So, has archaeology basically proven the Bible to be accurate already?

If someone wanted to get in touch with you, to ask a question or maybe do an interview such as this, how can they do that? How can they get in touch with you?

About your host

Profile picture for Robert Thibodeau

Robert Thibodeau

I am a 12 year Army veteran as both enlisted and as a commissioned Cavalry Officer.
I am now a retired law enforcement supervisor...

I had my own business for seven years before I entered law enforcement.

As a cop, I was injured on the job on May 12, 2007 and after several surgeries over a couple of years, forced to retire in 2011.

As I was looking down the road to “what am I going to do next?” I started what is now known as a podcast (I had no clue at the time).

Within six months of starting (what I called) “My online radio program” I was offered an opportunity to be on nationwide AM radio. I learned A LOT in one year of doing that!

I then started the online Christian radio platform "Evangelism Radio" in the fall of 2010. It has had listeners in 160+ nations and all 50 states. We host 50+ Christian broadcasters on a weekly basis. We have been operating 24/7 for almost 14 years now. We have been rated #1 in the world by Shoutcast. com on several occasions in our genre. We recently transferred ownership of Evangelism Radio to another ministry so I could concentrate full time on podcasting, preaching and writing.

In 2018, I started the Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast to conduct interviews with Christian influencers from all walks of life and to play their interviews on the radio station. (The KCR Podcast has its own time slot on Evangelism Radio)!
We now have over 1600 episodes and almost 1100 interviews (in just over 6 years).

Looking out at the future of online Christian media, I noticed there was no viable platforms that catered only to the Christian podcast market.

In 2023, we launched a networking platform called, "FaithCasters" which connects "Great Christian podcasters with Great Christian Guests!" This helps to promote the work you do through podcast interviews! Check it out at https://FaithCaster.org

We recently launched "FaithCaster Academy" which serves as a training hub for ALL of our trainings (podcast training / speaker training / interview training, etc.). Members receive access to ALL of our training programs for one low, monthly membership fee. Members also receive FREE access to ALL of the LIVE trainings I conduct (1 or 2 per month) - while non-members have to pay to access the live trainings.

Between my podcast training program, conducting podcast interviews, appearing on other podcasts as guests, speaking at conferences (in person and virtually) and the podcast networking platform, I guess you could say “I’m all in” when it comes to podcasting and online media!

My total focus is to do all we can to assist you to “Get The Word Out” about your mission, services, products, ministry, books, business, etc.
