Our Heart’s Desire – Bob Wheatley – pt 2
Our Hearts’ Desire
Bob Wheatley pt 2
How many times have you been, let’s say, standing around the water cooler at work (if those things even exist anymore), just chatting it up with your co-workers. And somebody will mention on word or one subject and then, on person starts sharing a story relative to the topic. It could be a story you’ve heard many times. It could be YOU telling the story, over and over again. Some people will just roll their eyes and walk away. Others, even though they have heard the story, somehow are mesmerized by it.
Why do we often tell the same stories over and over again?
Have you noticed that Jesus often used stories to convey his primary messages. They were called parables. But stories nonetheless. Why are we drawn in by stories and story tellers? More importantly, how can WE use stories to share our messages? How can we put together a story that helps our business or communicates our message to the world in which we seek to impact?
My guest today is here to share that information with us.
Bob Wheatley is a former professional baseball player, turned speaker, author and co-host of “That Singles’ Show” – a singles ministry sponsored by KCBI radio in Dallas, Texas (my old stomping grounds, I’m very familiar with KCBI).
Bob has worked with bestselling authors, keynote speakers and world class musicians, helping them to “Get the Word Out” by storytelling as well.
He is the author of an absolutely fabulous book titled, “Our Heart’s Desire: How Our Stories Reveal the Thing We Want Most.”
This is part two of an amazing two part interview!Jesus was a master storyteller, so there can be no doubt WE should become great storytellers as well. We need to share His message with others. You share that all stories have a premise. What is God’s premise to the story He is writing? What is it He is trying to get us to understand?
In your book, you break this down into, basically a three act play as well. Can you share with us the three acts of great story telling and why those are important?
In your book, “Our Hearts’ Desire,” you emphasize that the end of a love story, the hero and the love interest are usually joined together (in some stories it’s clear there is a wedding, in others it’s inferred). You call this “Her Redemption and His Reward.” What does that mean and what happens at this part of the story?
I believe most of us would like to think of ourselves as “heroes of our own story.” But, in your book, “Our Hearts’ Desire,” you actually say that’s not the way it is supposed to be. That we are actually the supporting character. What do you mean by that?
You mention something in your book, called “catharsis.” What is “catharsis” and what are the three steps we should take to achieve it?
On your website, you provide short video insights into each chapter of the book to assist in group discussions. That’s interesting. I had not heard of that before. Share with us about your thoughts on offering that to your readers?
I mentioned your radio program, “That Singles’ Show,” at the beginning of the interview. Share with some of the works you are doing to “Get the Word Out” into all the earth about Jesus…
The 5 years I lived in Fort Worth, KCBI was the ONLY station I listened to in the Dallas – Fort Worth area. They are amazing.
Bob, this has been so interesting. How can someone obtain a copy of your book, “Our Heart’s Desire: How Our Stories Reveal the Thing We Want Most?” Is it on Amazon?
If someone wanted to reach out to you, to ask a question, receive more information or maybe even to do an interview such as this, how can they do that? How can they get in touch with you?
Folks, I believe Bob Wheatley has accurately described us all as being storytellers. YOU have a story to tell. A story that will impact someone’s life somewhere. But, you need to understand how to share it in a way that will impact someone. Not have them roll their eyes and walk away. Amen!
I urge you to drop down into the show notes and order you copy of Bob Wheatley’s book, “Our Heart’s Desire: How Our Stories Reveal the Thing We Want Most.” For those of you who are speakers or business owners, this book will provide you with some very important insights into how to communicate your story effectively.
Why would you want to do things through trial and error when you can have Bob Wheatley walk you through the process and help you to achieve your goals a lot faster.
Drop down into the show notes, click the links right there to get in touch with Bob Wheatley and to order your own copy of “Our Heart’s Desire: How Our Stories Reveal the Thing We Want Most,” right now, today. Amen!
