Under the Orange Blossoms - Cindy Benezra pt 1
Under the Orange Blossoms
Cindy Benezra pt 1
Child abuse is one of the worst forms of trauma a human being endures. Unable to comprehend what is happening, but knowing it’s wrong. Unable to protect themselves. Unable to fight back. And when the violator is someone who is supposed to be protecting you, it is unimaginable.
But yet, in our society today, it is happening all around us. In 2020 alone, more than 7 million child abuse reports were filed. That’s the number that was reported. And more than 90% of those abused, were abused by one or both parents. This is tragic.
Cindy Benezra was one such child. She has authored a memoir titled, “Under the Orange Blossoms,” where she shares her tough childhood of abuse. It’s an inspirational story. A story of hope…a story where she shares her courage and willingness to heal.
In her book, she offers tools to heal and, through the telling of her heartfelt story, shows how anyone who has faced forms of trauma can be inspired by her story and wise words.
Help me welcome to the program, Cincy Benezra. Cindy, thank you for taking the time to visit and to share your story and all about your book, “Under the Orange Blossoms.” I do appreciate it.
First question I always ask, other than that brief information I just shared, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Cindy Benezra?”
As I was preparing for this interview, I seen on your website the you were originally starting to write a cookbook. But this book is what emerged? How did that happen?
I think I read where your abuse started about the age of five. At what point did this abuse end?
In your book, you discuss the physical, emotional and the sexual abuse you experienced by your father. Can you share just a bit of your story with us and, share with us how this changed your childhood?
Did your mother know this was going on? Or any other person?
As you were going this trauma as a child, how did you get through it. What was the strength you used to survive?
In your childhood, you traveled the world to many different countries. What was your up brining like? What was the purpose in all the travel?
Did you continue to have a father-daughter relationship with your dad once you grew up and you were able to leave home?
At what point in your life did you arrive at a place where, basically, you realized you had to forgive him in order for you to have some peace?
Folks, you need to order your copy of “Under the Orange Blossoms” right now. I know that you know someone who has gone through this sort of trauma. This book will be a blessing to them. Consider ordering a copy for your pastor as well. This would be a great resource for the churches and ministries out there. I’d even go as far as to recommend you get in touch with Cindy to have her come out to your church or event and discuss this very important topic with your members. Amen!
